WEEKLY UPDATE 30/11/2020
Good morning.
Robin Room
The theme this week is Christmas Trees, the children's activities include:
Decorating the Robin Christmas tree. They are learning to take turns and share. By decorating the tree this will help improve their fine motor skills, using the tri-pod grip and pincer grip, to pick up baubles and decorations. The children will also be decorating fir cones to transform them into little Christmas trees. The learning objective here is for the children to use their imagination to transform one object to another, and then to talk about their creation.
The 1-1 in the Robin Room is Maths. The children will be adding baubles to a Christmas tree picture whilst counting them on. They will be learning the difference between a large pile and a small pile of baubles. The learning objective will be to challenge the children to decide which pile is bigger/smaller as well as to increase their counting skills. They will be learning to recognise different numbers.
Outside the children will be hunting and collecting branches of the fern/fir tree. The children will be enjoying the textures and smells and will discuss what they think.
Owl Room
The theme this week is Christmas/Christmas stories.
The children are busy reading and listening to Christmas stories , this is to help improve their literacy skills. The learning objectives are to look at single letters and to develop their phonic skills for those letter. Staff will be encouraging children to think differently about the story and how it could have panned out. Once the story has ended they will be developing comprehension skills and asking open ended questions.
The 1-1 in the Owl Room is to continue to work on their craft activities. The learning objectives are for the children to make their own choices and talk about their designs and what they like about it.
Outside the children are having fun on balance beams and obstacle courses, this is to help with their physical development . The children will be using their gross motor skills and will learn how their bodies work and change by balancing differently and using different co-ordination types.
**All of the above is extra to our everyday activities which include indoor and outdoor free play, snack, children's choice, story time and singing time**
